Exercising has become a big part of my life for a couple of years now. Having had a stressful job in the hotel forced me to find ways to unwind, relieve stress and form healthier habits. Now that I travel full time I want to keep up my workout routine.
When traveling I still like to stay active. Whether it’s a walk or run by the beach (before laying by the beach all day), renting a bike to explore the city, using the hotel gym, using an app for a quick hotel room workout…
Why is it important to stay active while traveling? These top three benefits come to mind:
Immune system booster – provides a boost to the cells in your body that are assigned to attack bacteria
Mood booster – exercise releases endorphins, powerful chemicals in your brain that energize you and make you feel good
Fights jet lag – the body’s rhythm responds to exercise and makes you feel more awake
How can I motivate myself to workout?
A good playlist – one that makes you want to get up and move
A workout buddy – because it’s more fun and you’ll push each other to keep going
Beautiful scenery – it makes time fly by
I travel for work so sometimes I like to just do a quick workout in my hotel room. Using apps and You Tube videos helps me get an effective workout.
Using the “Health” app on your iPhone can help you keep track of your steps and how far you’ve walked. All you need to do is keep the phone in your pocket or purse.

Another great source of workouts is on You Tube. You can play the videos on your phone and work out along with your virtual trainer!
My personal favorites are Tone It Up, Fitness Blender and Popsugar Fitness.
I travel with a jump rope. It’s great for a quick workout to get the heart rate up!
Along with staying active while traveling, I find it’s important to eat healthy when you can. But to also indulge in all the local food! Everything in moderation.
Many hotels have plenty of healthy options at the breakfast buffet or on the room service menu. I like to start off with a healthy breakfast each morning. You can also grab some fruit from the buffet for a snack during the day.
